The
statue of Mary located in the Garden of St. Therese. This extraordinary sculpture
is made from marble quarried in Italy and was generously donated by the
Columbiettes
of New Jersey.
The statue of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel was commissioned by Fr. Brice Riordan (the founder of Carmel Retreat) and dedicated in 1958. It was moved from its original location in the Lower Garden to the Garden of St. Therese in 2002.
The face of Mary is modeled on a photo of American actress Loretta Young sent by Fr. Brice to the artist, Joseph Picirilli.
The Statue was designed by Fr. Brice with Our Lady leaning forward offering the Christ Child to those standing below.
The Plaza on which the Statue of Our lady of Mt. Carmel stands features numerous dedicated plaques and pavers.

The Rosary Shrines were planned as the centerpiece for the Marian Shrine for Peace. These were dedicated in 1965.
